Scarlett Fever Presents : Vodevil - October 7th at The Buff Club

SCARLETT FEVER - VODEVIL

Well it is not everyday that you set off from your home, on your own on a weekday to a Burlesque night.  Which is a shame.  People should enjoy and go along to live performances much more than they do.  Alternative nights out are always full of the unexpected and you never know who you might meet and the friends you might make.  Also the live performance crowds are always frindly, chatty and a delight to be around.
So I headed to Buff Club in Glasgow to go and see what this Scarlett Fever night was all about.  I had seen an advert looking for  blogger and that being something I do indulge in I thought it was worth going to see the night, meet the people and maybe get involved in this amazing element of live performances.   I was impressed by the look of the place and headed up the stairs, paid my entrance (£7...that's like a cinema ticket but you get to talk to people, wander around and be sociable rather than sit like  mindless zombie watching the same stories with different attractive people firing guns or falling in love...£7 well spent in my opinion) and went to find a drink.  It is always awkward when you arrive at a venue on your own because everyone seems to know everyone else but that lasted a few minutes at most before Kim Khaos the glamorous host of Scarlett Fever, with flaming red hair, a wonderful outfit AND shoes to die for (massive stilletos wrapped in hazard tape...genius by the way) came over and started to chat.  Once she knew why I was there and how I had found out about the venue she instantly went to go and find Jackie Sophia Clark who is the brains behind the operation, having pointed out one of the best seats in the house on the balcony where I could go and sit with my drink.  So I headed off up the stairs...catching glimpses of girls getting ready, perfecting their outfits, make up and preparing themselves for performance.
Jackie came and found me and we got chatting about her night.  She is very passionate about Burlesque as a performance and you can see that the minute she starts talking about it.  A lot of the people who help run and organise the events have been a part of it for a very long time.  From the sound to the tech to some of the performers themselves.  They all have their own reasons for getting involved and it's great to see a group of people so dedicated to this night.
The performances started and we were guided through the night by our host Kim Khaos.  Cheeky, funny and a delight to look at she is a great hostess who is able to have banter with the audience but still control the running of the performances.  She is comfortable on stage and who doesn't love a sidekick in the form of Lucifer her cat!
We weren't just given Burlesque either.  We had a mentalist to kick it all off who had a sidekick of her own.  We also had a magician who is writer by day, magician by night!
The burlesque girls themselves were fantastic.  We were dazzled by Mocha Dluxe, Misty Vie, Miss Dancelicious and headlined by Leyla-Rose.  Each one was unique, each one was fabulous!
Mocha Dluxe kicked us off and anyone who prances on stage with purple feathered fans is already a winner in my books!  She can bend in ways that I think I can only dream of these days (I knew I should have stuck at gymnastics as a kid!) Perfectly in time with amazing makeup and an amazing outfit she had it all.  Not only that she also used to run the Burlesque group for her university.  She knows what she's doing and it shows!
Misty Vie was an inspiration to us all.  She was and still is a ballet dancer and got into burlsque later.  Her confidence onstage was amazing!
Miss Dancelicious was out of this world.  She has trained in every style of dance possible I think and uses it all to make her routines unique and choreographically clever.  Her technique is second to none and she has a real touch of class to her performances.
Leyla-Rose was utterly incredible.  I was blown away and in all honesty I could not take my eyes off her.  Her music choice was great and she held the audince.  We all couldn't help but watch.  Every movement was planned and every detail put together well, from her wonderfully dramatic eyebrows to the spiral umbrella that YES matched the nipple tassles that it revealed.  It's the little things that make a performance go from great to perfect!
An extra bonus to the night was the charmers that are behind the night known as 'Menergy' came along and with them came Vanity Von Glow.  Not only was it entertaining and funny, not only did we get a song, it is a pleasant change to see nights supporting eachother and allowing other acts to come in a promote for a fellow night.
Just in case a mentalist, a magician, the Menergy crew and the Burlesque dancers weren't enough we also finished wit a live band by the name of Demimonde .  They are twin brothers and were full of life on stage.  I have to say I was extremely jealous of their outfits.  Gents we must talk!?!
Oh yes and just in case all of THAT wasn't enough...you could buy  some burlesque-esque wares from a delightful few ladies that had brought along some decorative pieces and jewelry to indulge yourself in throughout the night.  So you could leave with a bit of burlesque pinned to your head.
The only thing left to ask really is...where were you?
Don't miss out on the next one at THE PONY NOVEMBER 10th...see you there
